Introductory essay by Igor Yalivec from Gamardah Fungus:
The idea of creating this compilation has been in the air and in our conversations with Kate Carr for several years. After releasing some Gamardah Fungus’ albums on the Flaming Pines, we were glad to notice that listeners and music journalists all over the world became interested in Ukraine’s vanguard electronic music.
One of the main qualities of our modern non-mainstream scene is its cohesion, familiarity with each other and the friendly relations of almost all artists among themselves, despite the fact that the country is quite large and there is a lot of new interesting music in UA today.
We certainly are constrained by the ability to fit quite a large amount of audio material on one CD, so we have to choose only 12 tracks which sound aesthetics is close in spirit to the label. Therefore, we tried to present here the widest possible range of musicians: from the most experienced professional Alla Zagaykevych, to the youngest performers like Motorpig.
So, this is the Kaleidoscope. A brief and far from complete compilation of experimental music made by sound artists who live and work in Ukraine today. Its main goal is to introduce and attract more attention to contemporary music in Ukraine, which has been actively developing over the past few years despite economic difficulties and war in our country.
The main cover picture for this compilation which characterizes unity and interconnection between our very different musicians was also drawn by a young Ukrainian artist Alina Gaeva – www.instagram.com/ga.evart/
