Michael Trommer - The Great Northern Loon

from Birds of a Feather by Porya Hatami and Michael Trommer

/

about

Having spent many summers in the Canadian north, the haunting sound of the Great Northern Loon, usually heard echoing across darkened boreal lakes, has always held a personal resonance. This eerie cry is likely the reason for the bird's prominence in First Nations
legends, where it often appears as a messenger or world-creator. The fact that the loon tends to be solitary and generally keeps the same mate and home lake throughout its lifetime also holds a particular allure. The samples used for the piece were recorded from a canoe on a late summer night in Georgian Bay, Ontario, during the summer of 2011.
