about

"you, in the metallic, liquid bubble of a chatroom, dreaming. flirting using little yellow circles.
Come out your room." - from Chat Bubbles / Ennervation - Tam Lin.

Chat rooms, emojis, dreams (recalled and forgotten), words and water, water and gloss and fizz and fuzz, glitches and loneliness.
The smooth and not-so-smooth online spaces of despair and connection, and their reverberations or otherwise. This is the material Tam Lin has worked and reworked to produce bluelightnospaceflattime.

From the word salads of online advertising, content creation, engagement and streaming, reactions and the shifting, sliding, restless and uncomfortable inbetweens of walking and doom scrolling, sleeping and dreaming of online spaces, and online lives not quite lived, not yet lived? Or not ever?

From these scraps and fragments, the searingly vulnerable as well as the infuriatingly and disturbingly trivial Tam Lin has composed seven pieces which could only be made now, in this time.

bluelightnospaceflattime is the online world made eerie, haunting.

Lin's half-voiced desires and despairs float amid the flotsam of online exhortations, products, hooks and bundles. Amid irony and diversions, digital shrugs and lols. In the blur and overlaps of our many online selves, in the blue light of the screen, in our unrecalled and unrecounted dreams of these imaginary spaces, and selves.

"you are sitting in a chat room. eyes unblinking, you watch the dot dot dot. dot dot. dot
stops. you hang. for a moment.”

(from Shiver - Tam Lin).

Tam Lin is the musical moniker of Tam Lines, a London based multimedia artist with a special focus on online AV cultures, the politics of eeriness, and contemporary conditions of anxiety and isolation. Recent work includes “Crystallised Estate”, an audio essay for the Barbican show "What is Happening Inside?”; “Isolated Together: The Online Sound of Digital and Analog Haunting”, a practice research paper for Sonic Scope Journal; and “Nearly”, an EP released on the Hard Return label. Tam Lin is also the co-founder of Crossovers Collective, an ongoing art and music collective based in South London. The persona of Tam Lin acts as a reflection of our social media age, in which ‘real’ selves overlap uncomfortably with digital appearances.
