Born out of a collaboration stretching from Vancouver to Athens, A Changing Light centres on change, dislocation and uncertainty. From different time zones, and very different cities Valiska (Krzysztof Sujata) and Zenjungle (Phil Gardelis) have carved out an album which celebrates change, nuance and noise.
”We hope that the listener will be as uncertain about where they will find themselves from track to track as the image that we had in our minds,” the pair explain.
From the gorgeously gritty Derive to Gardelis’ blissful sax work on Nightwinds this is a special collaboration.
"Without a doubt, the highlight of the A Changing Light is ‘Nightwinds’. With regards to Zenjungle and his saxophone performance, as with Valiska backing it up on the piano… this elevates the music to a whole new level, enabling it to reach a sound that even the biggest music purists will find convincing. This is contemporary music in its most perfect form: moving to all of the places that technology allows us without ever putting the intimacy of acoustic instrumentation behind."
"Even though Valiska & Zenjungle refrain from producing light music, their results are constantly delightful..."
SOUNDS BEHIND THE CORNER:
SON OF MARKETING:
"These tracks build nicely towards the third track - ”Nightwinds” - which is the highlight for me, mainly because of Zenjungle’s saxophone and the accompanying piano. I cannot adequately express my delight when I heard this piece: it is sheer unadulterated bliss!"
MUSIC WON'T SAVE YOU:
"In "Nightwinds" everything is distilled into splinters epic seafaring, amplified by the characteristic use of the sax by Gardelis."
