about

Strapping his piano to a trailer West Australian pianist and improviser Michael Terren drove 200 kilometers from his home town in Perth to a farm from his childhood to record his debut EP Bythorne.

Mallets, keys and live electronics swirl and merge with birdsong, cows and passing cars in Terren’s debut, which he says he hopes pays tribute to the calmness of the rural Australian farm he got to know as a boy.

Bythorne is the name of Terren’s childhood farm and this EP pulses with the rhythms of a life dictated not so much by clocks and timetables but by sudden storms and slowly shifting seasons.

Recorded entirely amid the fields of the Bythorne farm, this confident and compelling debut bears testament to Terren’s skill as a musician and composer, and is a fitting homage to a very special place.
