"Niebla is a subtle, evoking and enriching listening experience, an album that offers an antidote to cultural preconceptions of the natural and where the listener is an active and responsive part of the work, entangled in a delicately emotional encounter with other species and cultures through sound. Maria Papadomanolaki for A Closer Listen.
"Equipped by technology’s skins, eyes, ears, hands, and feet, we go where we have never been before, this immense territory marks these musical traditions as part of a wilderness never needing to be civilized." - IGLOO MAG.

In Niebla Mexican composers Leena Lee and Vania Fortuna interrogate the mythologies, ecologies and symbolism of the emblematic quetzal bird, a creature sacred to both the Maya and Mexica pre-Hispanic civilizations. This is an album which explores the entanglements of nature and culture, the human and non-human, using sound itself as a tool to heighten our empathy and sensitivity to our environments and the species who share our world.
Situating the listener within the quetzal's cloud forest ecosystem Lee and Fortuna insist upon a version of this location as both active and responsive, a place not of alienation but rather of connection and engagement. The pair weave together culture, affect and interspecies encounter which, in these six movements, explores our symbolic and emotional relationships with the environment and its dwellers through sound.
