Wild Axe stands as an attempt to will the arrival of summer in the midst of 2013-2014's epic winter across the USA. Pines is the solo project of Zachary Corsa who also releases as Lost Trail with his wife Denny Corsa. His own words on the release are below:

"'Wild Axe' was recorded in the midst of one of the most brutal North Carolina winters on record, when we all huddled indoors like hibernating beasts and desperately tracked the merciless gunmetal skies for any hint of sun or warmth. In those haunted and frozen days, I conjured a 'summer album' from the bone-chill and ticking heaters of my studio, with only cats for company most leaden afternoons, an attempt to will the green and gold of reckless months into being. Hunched over a Macbook, hands shaking on the strings of acoustic instruments or the cold keys of a battered old piano, we banished winter from our door with sound." Zachary Corsa of Pines.
